The AbeBooks Channel Program was permanently closed on June 16, 2014. See full details.
When you upload a listing to AbeBooks, we accept and display whatever term you have entered into your binding field. The listings are also flagged with a standardized tag of either hardcover or softcover to ensure their searchablility by those attributes on our site.
Because of AbeBooks’ flexibility, our booksellers are able to provide a wide variety of terms for binding types, but Amazon only recognizes a limited number of those terms. Therefore, when we upload your listings to Amazon for the Channel Program, we use one of their standardized terms to ensure that the book is uploaded successfully. We currently support only two of Amazon’s terms:
hardcover and softcover.
Below is the list of acceptable binding terms that are compatible with both the Amazon and AbeBooks systems. Note that the terms are not case sensitive.
If you are using a binding term that is not included in this list, please change your term to the closest match.
In rare cases, a bookseller may provide us with one of the terms that Amazon accepts but that AbeBooks does not support and that is not mapped to either hardcover or softcover. As a result, when we upload it to Amazon, the listing can be rejected due to the discrepancy with the data in their catalog. When this occurs, simply update the binding term to the closest match in the lists above and re-upload the listing.
