From February 2013, AbeBooks required all FTP uploads to be done using FTPS. As a result, users of older versions of HomeBase 2.3 who wish to continue to upload to AbeBooks via the built-in FTP facility must download and install the updated version of the software. This update supports FTPS and can be downloaded and installed while preserving your existing data. Simply follow the instructions below.
Note that updating to the newest version of HomeBase 2.3 will allow you to continue uploading to AbeBooks via the built-in FTP facility, however if you use that built-in facility to upload to other marketplaces, you will only be able to continue to do so if those marketplaces also support FTPS. The alternative for sites that do not support FTPS is to create an export file and upload to those sites manually or through a third-party FTP program, such as FileZilla or Cyberduck.
Before you begin the installation, please create a backup of your book data and a copy of your hbdata.hbd file. The hbdata file is usually installed in your Program Files folder (for example, My Computer\Local disk C:\Program Files\HomeBase. The path for Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may be: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\HomeBase). If you have installed HomeBase elsewhere on your computer, you can locate the hbdata.hbd file using the Windows Search feature, which can be found by clicking the Windows [Start] button.
Important: To automatically associate your existing HomeBase data with the updated version you are installing, you must choose the same ‘Destination Location’ as your current version of HomeBase in Step 5 of the installation instructions below. If you don’t know the location of your current version of HomeBase, follow these steps before you begin:
You will be prompted to use the Setup Wizard the first time you use HomeBase 2.3. If you wish, you can skip the Setup Wizard and relaunch it at any time from the ‘Tools’ menu.
