Listing Types – Definitions

AbeBooks is the world’s largest online marketplace for books. There are many different types of books – as well as ephemera – that booksellers are permitted to list for sale on the AbeBooks websites.

All booksellers should be familiar with the specific item types listed below and the rules for listing them.

International Edition Textbooks:

An International Edition is a textbook that has been published outside of North America. Customers located in the U.S. can purchase International Edition textbooks, however the sale and distribution must not violate the copyright or trademark of the publishers of such works. International Editions may not be sold to customers in Canada unless authorized by the publisher. The publishers of International Editions generally do not authorize the sale and distribution of International Editions in Canada.

AbeBooks Bookseller Policy permits the sale of International Editions as long as specific requirements are met.

Teachers’ Editions are textbooks that are almost identical to regular student editions except that they also include extra notes and/or answers to problems.

Study Guides are guides published to help students get the most out of a particular book. They generally do not include the full text of the book itself but rather provide supplementary material to assist students’ learning.

Solutions Manuals are answer keys for questions/problems found within a textbook, usually intended for the course instructor.

AbeBooks Bookseller Policy permits the sale of Teachers’ Editions, Study Guides, and Solutions Manuals as long as specific requirements are met.
